Multiband and SAE homologation
MB Services is Multiband/SAE Certifier Laboratory.
What does Administrative Registration mean?
The new normative implemented by SUBTEL, called Multiband/SAE, started to rule since September 23rd, 2017.
This normative is for cellphones commercialized in Chile since then, carrying a seal indicating which bands the device works in, categorizing it as compatible or not compatible with 2G, 3G and 4G technologies.
Also, obligatorily, the devices must be compatible with the Emergency Alert System (SAE), a massive alert sent by the Emergency National Office (ONEMI) automatically to every device which is in a geographic zone affected by a natural disaster.
MB SERVICES has been authorized as MULTIBAND / SAE CERTIFIER COMPANY. This authorization by the authority carries the responsibility of mobile devices homologation and verifying the compliance of the normative exposed in the 1463 and 1474 exempt resolutions.
Fulfilling the above, the cellphones will be available to be commercialized in Chile showing the following seals:
The device is suitable for every band of 2G, 3G and 4G technologies. Also, is compatible with the Emergency Alert System.
What if the device does not comply with one technology? Here’s an example:
The device is suitable for every band of 2G technology. For the rest of the technologies, its operation with every operator's sim card cannot be guaranteed. Also, is compatible with the Emergency Alert System.
Thus, if a cell phone does not carry this seal, IT CANNOT BE COMMERCIALIZED IN THE COUNTRY.
WHAT IF I BOUGHT A CELLPHONE OUT OF THE COUNTRY? WHAT IF I’M A FOREIGN JUST PASSING BY THE COUNTRY?
For these cases, you must proceed with an “administrative registration”. For devices bought out of the country or foreign people passing by the country who want their cellphone to work in a national mobile network, these services must be carried with an authorized laboratory (as MB SERVICES). These services could eventually be for free if the requirements set out in 1463 exempt resolution are complied. In these cases, if the cellphone supports or not every band of every technology and the Emergency Alert System it is fully the applicant responsibility.
